3rd Year Senior Class at the Belmont School Summer Fete June 2016

We are a friendly school of classical ballet and our classes take place in Erith and Bexleyheath, Kent, UK.

Susie Clarke RAD Teaching Certiciate [Principal teacher]

Originally from Essex, Susie Clarke trained in classical ballet with Patricia Burrows, {RAD} and later with Joanna Carr {Vaganova} at the Dance Centre in Covent Garden.   She has over 25 years of experience as a teacher/choreographer and is an accredited teaching member of the Board of Dance Qualifications and Training.   In 1991 Susie opened the award winning Goldsmiths Ballet School in Catford, South East London.  Susie graduated from the RAD Teaching Certificate programme in 1995.   She has visited Russia on many occasions and has been privileged to have received private coaching in the Vaganova system of classical ballet.  Susie has been involved in the amateur theatre locally for many years, not only in directing and choreography but in performance too.   She very much hopes that her love and enthusiasm for the theatre will be transmitted to young people wherever she teaches.

The story of Belmont School of Ballet

Belmont School of Ballet first started as an after school ballet club at Belmont Primary School in Erith in September 2000.   Six months later there were over 50 children attending and a waiting list in operation.    In May 2001 the Saturday classes opened and a Reception Class for 3-4 year olds was introduced.   Children from outside of Belmont Primary school were now made most welcome.   In 2011 our school celebrated a most happy 10th Anniversary and in 2012 we affiliated to the Association of Russian Ballet & Theatre Arts.    Children aged 3-7 years enjoy fun classes based on the early grades of the Association and the Royal Academy of Dance pre-school syllabus.    Senior Classes follow the first 3 years of study of the Vaganova system of classical ballet.    The Third Year Plus Class which takes place at Townley School's Dance Studio in Bexleyheath was introduced in 2010 and is by invitation only.

Pupils from the Belmont School of Ballet have appeared with the London Children's Ballet, the English Youth Ballet and past students have gained places at the Brits Performing Arts, Guildford School of Acting and the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.

School productions are performed periodically and costumes are provided by the ballet school free of charge.   A small show fee may sometimes apply.   Parents are invited to watch classes at the conclusion of each term and Achievement Award Classes are held on a regular basis throughout the year.

Group bookings to see professional theatrical performances and ballets are arranged throughout the year, usually at greatly reduced prices.
